Miri - Mulu

One more time we woke up at 6:30am to catch the flight to Gunung Mulu National Park.

Miri being bigger than Bintulu, there was a Starbucks at the airport, the place to go when you want decent coffee in Asia. Alice ordered her Mokka and a hot chocolate for me. We don't really know why but something went from in the preparation and they prepared 2 hot chocolates. But Alice REALLY wanted coffee so they made her Mokka and offered us the extra hot chocolate. 0.6L of hot chocolate in one breakfast is a bit too much.
We laughed a lot when on the plane they offered us a Milo drink. That's a cold milk chocolate drink. Strangely none of us could drink it.

Another very short flight: 30min this time. It seems like we're flying like people would take the bus or train to commute to work.

From the airport we took a shuttle, i.e. the oldest van ever which doors hold thanks to cables, to reach the National Park.

Check in and booking of tours turned out less straight forward than we expected. Reason is that they do everything by hand. They have several notebooks (one for hostel, one for whole day tours, one for short tour, etc.) and the pencil in reservations. If you remember how it was before computers, you would have the right picture in mind.
Unfortunately for us we hadn't booked our tours in advance. We found out once at the park reception that you MUST book in advance, especially when you travel during the high season (July-August). A detail that the Lonely Planet Malaysia missed to mentioned.
We met with the Senior Guide (i.e. the boss over there) to see what could be feasible but never managed to get any of the full day tours :(
This said Senior Guide was extremely friendly and full of advise. He arranged a full schedule for us. Not full day trip but several half day ones.
After a lunch of Nasi goreng, local fried rice with egg on top, we met the guide at the park head quarter and started our 3.6km walk to the Deer and Langs caves.
