Birds, lovely birds

Snapshots from a visit of the Bird Park in Singapore where we saw a lot of birds... really a lot of them...

Flamingos
PS: not as many nor as beautiful as the ones from Camargue but still impressive colors and necks.

Herons
Always so elegant.

Macaws
Amazing colors, front and back.

Marabou stork, Saddle-billed storks and some other funny birds sliding on palm trees

Shoebill, which name comes from the fact that its beak looks like a clog shoe.
Didn't move much, but didn't give the impression that you want to mess with it.

Pelicans

Watching them yawning reveals the full depth of their beak... infinite

Parrots
Sadly they were in cages with wide fence which made it difficult to see, even more to take pictures. Someone was not happy... I guess you know who :)
Yet we could still see something as even behind fence, colorful parrots are visible.

Parrots might be beautiful but they are noisy. With so many of them in such a small surface, I felt relieved to walk about and get some quietness.

The African waterfall aviary
Or a bit of peace in the noisy world of birds

Penguins
Yes! Penguins in Singapore. Indoor obviously as they would never survive the hot weather. The "ice field" was set at a temperature of 16C which I believe can be considered tropical for birds which are used to negative temperatures.
Anyway, penguins are always cute to watch and the air conditioning in their building was more than welcome.

As good tourists we watched the show where the different talents of agility and speaking were demonstrated. I have to say it was quite impressive to see what birds can do. For sure I will never forget the parrot singing happy birthday. While I admire the performance in terms of teaching a parrot how to sing, artistically the sound was not so pleasing.

One more round of tropical birds, the lories, which were "free" to fly within their huge aviary.
Small birds, but colors to die for.

PS: the best hour to visit the park was clearly when it opened. Between 8:30am and 9:30am, park was almost empty. After that, it was invaded by families and tourists. Once again it was worth getting out of bed early.
